Skills

Skills are tool extensions that customize what the agent can do on a per-project basis. They're loaded at the start of each chat session, giving the agent additional capabilities beyond its defaults.

How skills work

Start scans your project for available skill definitions and makes them available to the agent. Each skill defines a set of tools and instructions — think of them as plugins that teach the agent new tricks specific to your project.

Built-in skills

Start includes several built-in skills available for all projects — common workflows like code review, testing, and documentation generation.

Custom skills

Define your own skills by placing files in your project's .claude/ directory. Custom skills follow a specific format and can define any tools or instructions you need.

Managing skills

Open the Skills section in the left sidebar to see all available skills for your project.

• Toggle individual skills on or off — selections are saved per project
• Click any skill to inspect its full content and see exactly what it provides to the agent
