Terms

These terms govern your use of Start, a local application that runs on your Mac.

Provided as-is

Start is provided on an as-is basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. While the application is developed with care, we do not guarantee that it is free of defects or suitable for every workflow. You use it at your own discretion.

Your keys, your usage

Start operates with the API keys and access tokens already present on your machine. You provide them, you own them, and you are responsible for any usage or costs incurred with the provider you have configured.

Keys are stored securely in the macOS Keychain. We do not see them and we do not manage them. If you rotate or revoke a key with your provider, Start will be unable to use it until the corresponding Keychain entry is updated.

AI output

Start is a workspace built around an AI agent. The behaviour of the underlying model is a property of the model itself and is not controlled by Start. Outputs may be incorrect, incomplete, or unexpected. You should review changes before committing them and treat agent-executed commands with the same caution you would apply to any script you did not write yourself.

Any disruption caused by the AI is a limitation of the underlying model rather than something Start can prevent.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for the code the agent produces, the commands it executes on your behalf, and any resulting effects on your system, repositories, or third-party services. Maintaining backups, using version control, and reviewing diffs before pushing changes are your responsibility.

Acceptable use

You agree to use Start only for lawful purposes. You must not use it to perform actions that are unlawful, harmful, or that violate the rights of others. Because you direct the agent, the prompts you provide and the commands it executes are attributed to you.

Third-party services

When Start connects to external services such as a Git host or an AI provider, your use of those services is governed by their respective terms. Start acts as a client. Any limits, fees, or rate caps imposed by those services apply to your relationship with them directly.

Open source

Start is built on top of open-source libraries. Their licenses apply to their respective components, and we acknowledge the contributions of their maintainers.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Start and its maintainers are not liable for lost work, lost data, provider charges, or any other damages arising from your use of the application or from actions performed by an AI agent operating within it. Version control and regular backups are strongly recommended.

Changes

These terms may be updated as the application evolves. Updated terms take effect when published on this page.
